Guardavalle

The Guardavalle grape is an authochthonal grape of the Calabrian province of Reggio Calabria, especially present in the Ionian coast. It is used mainly in blends with other grapes of the area. It is widespread only in Calabria, in the grape regions of Kalipera, of Locride, in the province of Reggio Calabria and in particular in the Ionian coast of the region. Its white berry is medium size, spherical shaped with a peel of medium and large thickness, slightly waxy, amber color uneven. The bunch is medium, conical, sometimes sparse, medium compact and medium, pentagonal, five-lobed leaves. Guardavalle has a good tolerance to adverse climatic conditions, it is not particularly demanding. The Guardavalle vine gives a straw yellow colored wine of an intense aroma with toasted hazelnut notes and in the mouth it is warm.
