Nosiola

Nosiola

The Nosiola grape is grown in Trentino, more precisely in the Toblino area and in the Valle dei laghi, and it is believed to be an indigenous variety of that area, grown on terraces called “frate”. It is also grown in Lavis, in the province of Trento. It seems that its name is due to the hazelnut notes found in wine (from the dialect “nosela”), or is attributable to the crunchiness and the golden color of its berries. In Trentino it is one of the most characteristic local grape varieties, so much so that it participates in vinification of many white wines and is the basis of the homonymous wine, Trentino DOC Nosiola. The grapes Nosiola also give the famous sweet wine of the region, the Trentino Vino Santo, obtained by natural drying on racks of these grapes with a minimum alcohol content of 16%. The berry is white, medium, and spherical, the skin is waxy, thin, firm, greenish yellow. The Nosiola variety has medium-small leaf, medium cluster, elongated cylindrical, winged, and compact. The vine Nosiola prefers land in the hills, sunny and breezy. This variety has medium-late maturing and medium vigor. The Nosiola grape gives a straw yellow colored wine, with green highlights and delicately fruity aromas with subtle hints of hazelnut. The taste is dry and pleasantly cool.
