Turchetta

The Turchetta vine is native to the Veneto and was once widespread both in the province of Padua, as reported by Marzotto in the early 20th century, which is in the Polesine area, in the province of Rovigo. Currently endangered, a few manufacturers of Padua and Polesine are trying to recover it, thanks to the viticultural and winemaking quality, making it particularly attractive for the production of red wines of great depth. The berry is black, medium, circular with very waxy, blue-black skin. The bunch is medium or medium-small, pyramidal, winged, medium compact with a medium, pentagonal, five-lobed leaf. The Turchetta variety has medium vigor and age of medium maturity. It is a rustic vine, very resistant to pests and diseases. Its productivity is regular but not abundant. The Turchetta grape variety gives a very intense ruby red wine. The scent is intense and complex, fruity, floral and spicy, with notes of violets and cherries. The taste is fresh for acidity, tannic, with a finish of bitterness in the mouth.
