Why we love it

This is a fantastic Barbera d’Asti Superiore with the typical characteristics of the wine, fruity and a lively acidity, but also a more complex nose with firm, soft tannins and an elegant palate.

Barbera d’Asti is often wrongly considered a cheaper alternative of the Barbera d’Alba, due to its higher acidity that if not balanced could make the wine unpleasant to drink, but they are just two different wines and this Barbera d’Asti Superiore is certainly not your typical Barbera, this red wine is richer, more complex, made by blending two different Barbera wines, one that has been kept in steel tanks and another one that has been aged in oak.

Barbera d‘Asti when properly made can a great wine, read about the hundreds shades of the appellation.

The artisan who made it

The L’Armangia winery have been making wines in Canelli, Piedmont, from 1850, and today they are amongst the top wineries of the area particularly with regard to growing and producing Barbera d’Asti and Moscato D’Asti. Ignazio, the owner and winemaker, is not your conventional winemaker, he knows his grapes as if they are his own sons and daughters and he knows what they can produce and he firmly believes in the Barbera d’Asti grape, but also grow a variety of other grapes including Albarossa, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a very small vineyard of Pinot Nero that makes an amazing wine.

This is an excellent wine for foods such as a lighter red meat (lamb cutlets) or a creamy sauce. Somewhat fruity but with a very nice acidity that pairs well with food that appreciates the mild acidity. Light in tannins, fruity and medium bodied, a very nice, well made wine and highly recommended, especially at this price.

Wow, what can I say? This really isn't your typical barbera, it is so much more, this one is much richer than any other barbera I have drunk and the smell is wonderful. Me and my wife drank this with our lunch a few days ago and it made our meal so much more enjoyable. We'll definitely be buying another bottle sometime in the near future
