Why we love it

Cabernet Franc is not usually associated with Italy and Italian cabernet franc wines are not easily found, in Italy or outside, due to their very distinctive nose and palate, a nose and palate that are not everyone's’ cup of tea, but Scubla’s Cabernet Franc is one of our favourite wines.

In Italy the grape is mainly grown in Friuli Venezia Giulia where it is vinified on its own, Tuscany where it is used in Supertuscan blends and can be found sporadically in other region as far as Sicily.

This is a 100% cabernet franc wine made from manually harvested grapes grown in the Colli Orientali area, Friuli Venezia Giulia, with its characteristic herbaceous nose and hints of raspberry evolving into a more complex nose as the wine ages in the bottle. The palate is very hearty, with a soft tannin and almost a chocolaty aftertaste. A great Cabernet Franc wine for all lovers of the grape.

The artisan who made it

Roberto Scubla is an amazing person who is very passionate about his wines. He took a big risk and left a safe job in the bank for an uncertain future amongst the vines and he has truly succeeded in what he was trying to achieve. His winery and vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali area of Friuli, north east of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where he grows native grapes like the Friulano and Verduzzo but also grapes that have found an ideal environment in Friuli such as the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon or the Sauvignon and all his wines have plenty of character and elegance.
