An amazing Gavi di Gavi, a beautiful wine, a wine to talk about, a wine to sip.
Gavi is a DOCG wine widely known and appreciated, in Italy and abroad, made with Cortese grapes grown in and around the commune of Gavi and this Gavi di Gavi comes from a small estate located right in the heart of the Gavi region, in one of the most vocated area, Rovereto, made from selected, hand picked, Cortese grapes from a single vineyard.
For this Gavi di Gavi, Mauro Moncalvi the owner and wine maker, only uses grapes from the oldest vineyard, and the result is a superb Gavi di Gavi, a step above the other Gavi, with its elegance, finesse, higher alcohol content. This Gavi di Gavi has a fruity nose with recognisable apple hints, on the palate is fresh, refreshing, perfectly balanced with a long mineral finish, this is a Gavi di Gavi to drink now or put aside and drink in a few years.
This Gavi di Gavi shows the potential of the Cortese grapes and the importance of the “terroir”, the Cortese grapes in the right place and with a skilled winemaker can produce great wines that can stand ageing.

The I Moncalvi winery is now run by Mauro, the current generation, and Mauro is very passionate about his wines. The vineyards, mainly Cortese used to make Gavi but also a bit of Barbera and Dolcetto, are located in the heart of the Gavi area, in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont, and are between twenty and fifty years old and together with the location, produce wonderful, high quality wines different from the others in the area. Mauro is so devoted to making the best wines he can, that he only uses the very best grapes to produce them, the remaining are usually sold to nearby wineries.
