The Chardonnay grape is one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in the world. The origin of the Chardonnay is in Burgundy and has an incredible variety of aromatic components depending on the soil and climate where it is grown and produce good quality wines when grown with relatively high yields and outstanding wines when yields is kept low. The Chardonnay is used in the making of some of the best sparkling wines of the world and has great aging capacity. Italy has a long tradition for growing Chardonnay and today is produced more or less everywhere and some of the best chardonnay comes from Piedmont, Friuli, Veneto, Trentino, Valle d'Aosta, Tuscany and Sicily.
