Why we love it
Made with Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Freisa and Barbera grapes with their percentage changing each year depending on the quality of the vintage, this red wine, due to the Italian wine system belonging to the Monferrato Rosso DOC appellation, it is much more than your usual “Monferrato rosso”.
The different grapes are vinified individually and aged separately, in different barrels due to their different evolution, and only blended at the end, before being bottled.
The result is a great red wine, a wine that offer so much, a wine that evolves with ageing, a red wine that starts with a fruity nose, marked tannins and good acidity when young, perfect for red and grilled meat, and develops into a more complex wine, with a spicy nose, softer tannins and a velvety palate, perfect for game and cheeses.
The artisan who made it
The L’Armangia winery have been making wines in Canelli, Piedmont, from 1850, and today they are amongst the top wineries of the area particularly with regard to growing and producing Barbera d’Asti and Moscato D’Asti. Ignazio, the owner and winemaker, is not your conventional winemaker, he knows his grapes as if they are his own sons and daughters and he knows what they can produce and he firmly believes in the Barbera d’Asti grape, but also grow a variety of other grapes including Albarossa, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a very small vineyard of Pinot Nero that makes an amazing wine.
