Why we love it
One for the first wines to be bottled by the winery, this Montepulciano D’Abruzzo was first produced back in 1977. In 2014, the region has obtained the DOCG status so the wine has become Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane.
Named after one of Notaresco’s oldest districts, “Le Murate”, is made from selected grapes from Montepulciano vineyards planted as far as the 1970s.
About 30% of the wine is decanted in small, second passage French oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation lasting approximately 4 months. The wine is then aged in wood.
This is a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo with an extra gear, with a complex nose, with notes of dark fruit and rose, soft, smooth, rich, with a big structure, perfectly balanced. Perfect with mature cheeses or rich courses, from roasts to barbeques.
The artisan who made it
Fattoria Nicodemi is located in Notaresco, in the heart of the Colline Teramane DOCG zone. The vineyards, at about 300 metres in altitude, protected by the Gran Sasso mountain and only 10 kilometres from the sea, enjoy an exceptional microclimate. The winery follows organic practices, without chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Nicodemi is also the story of Alessandro and Elena, brother and sister, that took over in 2000 from their dad who followed the steps of their granddad. Nicodemi is the story of their family.
Fattoria Nicodemi philosophy is based on following the tradition using the most modern technologies. Their wines are proud voices of their unique terroir. They believe wine is made in the vineyards by nature, their role is only make the best us of what nature offers.
