Why we love it
Valpolicella is an everyday, easy to drink red wine from Veneto, nothing too complex or big, a lively wine, medium bodied and with a lovely acidity, perfect to drink on its own or to accompany food, from pasta to pizza. Valpolicella is a very versatile red wine.
Valpolicella is a worldwide known Italian wine, one of the first wines to be exported, and it is often a one dimension wine, however, a good Valpolicella, there are several, has many more shades and this is one of them.
Made from grapes from a single vineyard called “Le Quare” grown in the heart of the Valpolicella region, the so called “Classico” area – hence it is allowed to have the word Classico on the label - located at about 400 mas, this Valpolicella has plenty of fruit on the nose and a smooth and medium bodied with an elegant palate.
The artisan who made it
Over the generations, the Gamba winery has been passed down from father to son and it is now run by the three brothers Giovanni, Giuseppe and Martino helped by their own sons and daughters. Located right in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area and spanning six acres, they grow the classic Valpolicella grapes, from Corvina to Rondinella with which then they make the classic Valpolicella wines, from valpolicella to amarone, from valpolicella ripasso to a recioto della valpolicella.
