Prosecco is one of the big wine stories, the wine has taken over the world in a relatively short time, becoming the most drunk and possibly famous, sparkling wine in the world, overtaking champagne. In the last 10 years, Prosecco consumption has exploded, we all love a glass or two, but not all Prosecco are the same.
The
Prosecco region is divided into two sub areas, the DOC area, where Prosecco is made, and the DOCG area, the heart, the best hills and vineyards, recently added to Unesco World Heritage List, where the Prosecco Superiore is made and Prosecco di Valdobbiadene is one of them. Prosecco Superiore is very different from the normal Prosecco, it is a cut above the DOC, it is more elegant, more refined.
This Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene, made from hand picked glera grapes grown in the heart of Valdobbiadene area and voted best Prosecco from The Times in a tasting, has a very elegant and delicate nose with floral hints and a soft, gentle bubble, with just the right acidity to accompany light dishes or canapés or just to be sipped on its own as an aperitif.
Right in the middle of the Valdobbiadene region in Veneto , at the heart of the Prosecco superiore area, is located the La Farra winery and vineyards, owned by the three Nardi brothers and their sister. La Farra have been making Prosecco and sparkling wines seemingly forever and yet it is only in the last 20 years that they have started bottling wine under their own name and are now one of the most appreciated Prosecco.
